The burst strength rating of a box cannot be calculatedbased off of the total weight to be kept inside the box. Burst strengthis the measurement of the tearing and tensile strength as well as theresistance of a material to burst, expressed in pounds per inch. The bursting strength of a corrugated box is determinedby the characteristics of the paper used to construct the box itself. Iwould recommend looking at TAPPI Test Method T 810 “Bursting Strength ofCorrugated and Solid Fiberboard.” More information on this test methodcan be found at
